Jewish Groups Join Call To Mayors To Denounce ‘Anti-Sharia’ Marches

An array of liberal Jewish groups has signed on to letters to 29 mayors urging them to denounce planned “anti-sharia” marches this weekend.

“Timed during the Islamic month of Ramadan, when Muslims around the world fast during the daylight hours, these protests have been disingenuously branded ‘March Against Sharia’ and explicitly target Muslims at a time when hatred and bigotry has swept the nation,” said the letters, which went out Thursday to the mayors of cities including Atlanta, Boston, Houston, Indianapolis, New York and Orlando.

Sharia refers to Muslim religious law.

No racial bias in police shootings, study by Harvard professor shows

A study by a Harvard professor released this month found no evidence of racial bias in police shootings even though officers were more likely to interact physically with non-whites than whites.

The paper for the National Bureau of Economic Research, which examined thousands of incidents at 10 large police departments in California, Florida and Texas, concluded that police were no more likely to shoot non-whites than whites after factoring in extenuating circumstances.

“On the most extreme use of force — officer-involved shootings — we find no racial differences in either the raw data or when contextual factors are taken into account,” said Harvard economics professor Roland G. Fryer Jr. in the abstract of the July 2016 paper.

Mr. Fryer, who is black, told The New York Times that the finding of no racial discrimination in police shootings was “the most surprising result of my career.”

At the same time, the study found blacks and Hispanics were more than 50 percent more likely to experience physical interactions with police, including touching, pushing, handcuffing, drawing a weapon, and using a baton or pepper spray.

In social networks, group boundaries promote the spread of ideas, study finds

Allowing voluntary segregation, call in “Pan-Nationalism”, will give people the security from which they can make inquiries into the unknown and foreign. It will improve communication, peace, and harmony.

This is not a controversial idea. The idea of self determination is embedded in many of the pivotal documents and declarations of history, including the Treaty of Versailles, Wilson’s 14 Points, and the Declaration of Independence.

It only seems radical because of a very small, very loud group of neo-Marxists.

Counterintuitively, he finds that breaking down group boundaries to increase the spread of knowledge across populations may ultimately result in less-effective knowledge sharing. Instead, his research shows that best practices and complex ideas are more readily integrated across populations if some degree of group boundaries is preserved.

The findings suggest that a policy to increase integration in the workplace by doing away with ethnically affiliated clubs, for example, could actually reduce the likelihood that ideas and beliefs would be shared across the company. The work has implications for institutional attempts to increase diversity, businesses’ efforts to spread shared values and organizations interested in integrating solutions to complex problems.
